Painful loss. Hornets vs Cavaliers
Hornets vs Cavaliers
The Hornets short winning streak ended tonight at Spectrum Center with a loss against the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers, 110 – 113. The Hornets were outscored 40 -21 in the first quarter, continuing our dismal starts. I knew that the young Cavaliers were going to give us the best they had, but I just didn’t imagine being outscored like that from the jump. Six out of the eight Cavaliers players who saw minutes scored in double digits. We couldn’t keep Jarret Allen off the boards and that resulted in a ton of Cavaliers dunks.
The Hornets once again made an effort late in the game. We ended up getting within three points with 30 seconds left, but the man who was on fire, Terry Rozier, just narrowly missed a three pointer. I usually don’t say this, but the Hornets couldn’t catch a break with the foul calls. The refs, especially in the fourth quarter, seemed to be calling everything for the Cavs and nothing for the Hornets. Gordon Hayward and Kelly Oubre both had off nights and that definitely affected the loss. Our starting center Mason Plumlee continued his below average start to the season, as he finished with 2 points and 7 rebounds. I know it’s early in the season but the Hornets should never stop being aggressive in trade talks for a good young center to complement our young back court.
LaMelo Ball had an outstanding game. He ignited our comeback in the fourth quarter and finished with 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Rookie guard James Bouknight once again didn’t get any minutes which really surprises me after the potential he showed in the preseason. The Hornets coaching staff is probably waiting for the right time to introduce him, but as a Hornets fan, I can’t help but wonder when that time will finally come.
The Hornets are going off to the west coast for a road trip in California that starts with playing Steph Curry and the red hot Golden State Warriors on ESPN Wednesday night.
