Fourth quarter comeback doesn’t fall through. Hornets vs Grizzlies
Hornets vs Grizzlies
The Hornets took on one of the best teams in the NBA, the Memphis Grizzlies, on Saturday at Spectrum Center. Being the second game of a back-to-back I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. The Hornets needed to start off strong, or at least not get behind too bad, because the Grizzlies can make you pay. And we did exactly the opposite.
The first quarter demonstrated how you can really lose games in just twelve minutes. The Hornets fell behind 36-15. We shot horrific and made terrible decisions, which led to the Grizzlies getting out to transition.
The second quarter wasn’t as bad but our three-point defense was just flat-out terrible. In the third quarter, we played a little better, but we were still down 24 headed into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, we attempted one of the best comebacks I’ve ever seen. After being down by 30 in the second half the Hornets cut the lead down to 4. Spectrum Center was as loud as I’ve ever heard thanks to Montrezl Harrell, who finished with 20 points, hyping up the crowd multiple times. In the end, Ja Morant and his layup that iced the game got the last laugh.
The fight we showed tonight was inspiring, but in my opinion, if we are going to be competitive with the best of them we have to start strong, shoot the ball well from the jump, and make smart plays from the first whistle. We can’t rely on miraculous comebacks to win games.
