We should have won. Hornets vs Heat
Hornets vs Heat
The Hornets traveled back home Thursday to play the Heat in the final game before the all-star break. I loved the intensity we came out with. Despite being down by seven going after twelve minutes the Hornets fought hard and held the Heat to a ten-point second quarter. Going into halftime we were up by seven. A lot of Hornets were playing well.
The most entertaining game in basketball is when teams are scoring back and forth and that’s exactly how this game was in the second half. We managed to hold Jimmy Butler to below double digits entering the fourth thanks to Miles Bridges’ hounding defense. I also noticed that PJ Washington took on the challenge of guarding the smaller quicker Kyle Lowry in the second half.
After Montrezl Harrell opened up the fourth quarter with seven straight points the Hornets led by fourteen, and I was feeling amazing. I just knew the Hornets were going to win. But then the Heat came back and tied it and we were going to overtime.
Montrezl Harrell was fouled in the paint with 1.7 seconds left and he went to the line down 1. He made the first to tie the game but missed the second. Jimmy Butler’s shot to when was blocked by PJ and we were going to double OT.
In the second OT, LaMelo fouled out when we were down three with 2:10 remaining so that hurt us pretty bad. Kyle Lowry and Jimmy Butler made jumpers to seal the win and the Hornets lost 111 – 107.
After the game, I saw a video of a “three” Kyle Lowry made in the first overtime that was clearly a two. The Hornets coaching staff saw that it was a two and they were mad because the officials never stopped the game to review the play. If that call would have been overturned the Hornets would have won 97-96.
